Ullapool To Durness
Arguably the best of the scenic routes Scotland has to offer, this drive is quiet and spectacular. For most people this is Scotland at its best as small communities, lochs and mountains unite to offer a highly scenic experience. You will actually not find anything better in the entire UK.
Ullapool can be a great departure point for various ferries that take you to Western Isles. You can start your experience by climbing Suilven, go to Handa Island to enjoy some birdwatching, visit Sandwood Bay and so much more. When you are on the trip you can actually go on some detours to experience even more of what is offered on other roads.
Stirling To Skye
There are a lot of people that visit Skye when visiting Scotland so if you drive on the A82, the most popular of the south routes, you should experience this highly scenic route. The road is quite narrow and definitely windy in various parts but that should not be a problem.
This route takes around 3.5 hours to complete. This does not include stops, of course. Make sure that you consider visiting Stirling Castle, which is considered by locals as being better than the much more popular Edinburgh Castle.
When on the road, you will want to consider visiting Fort William and the Commando Memorial. Various viewpoints are available and will allow you to take some wonderful pictures as you prepare for what you want to visit in Skye.
Highland Perthshire Loop
This is a 65 kilometers circular route. It allows you to see some of the best scenery in Highland Perthshire and the sights are wonderful. This scenic route is perfect for a half day excursion, especially since you can also visit Aberfeldy and Pitlochry. The route goes past Loch Tummel and River Tay. Scenic is definitely the best way to describe this drive.
Ardnamurchan Loop
For many, Ardnamurchan is a hidden gem of the country. Not many visitors can be seen and the truth is that you can easily soak up in some tremendous scenery while being a little secluded from the rest of the world. The only problem is that you will not want to take a caravan. The loop is quite narrow at places and caravans will have a really slow trip. Look at alternatives so that you can see what visiting options are available for you.
