Germany’s Top Museums

Out of all the museums in Europe, those that are in Germany do have a specific appeal. It is impossible to create a list of the best in the continent but it is a certainty that you will have some German museums on the list. When referring strictly to those that are in Germany, we did list those that are the most popular among tourists. You may think differently so feel free to share your opinions below in the event that there is a great museum in Germany that we may have missed.

Alte Pinakothek – Munich

This is a huge repository of really old paintings done by masters. A full day or 2 of a person’s time can be filled. This museum offers many works done by European artists with a huge reputation between the fourteenth and the eighteenth centuries. You can easily see canvases by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Raphael and Botticelli.

This is a German museum that is perfect for those that are interested in Hitler and his rise to power. There are so many interesting exhibits connected to the rise to power of the Fuhrer. You will definitely appreciate the various exhibits and a lot of history is highlighted here.

This is a really interesting museum in Germany. We are faced with a highly imposing neoclassical architecture home that highlights collections of Roman, Etruscan and Greek antiquities. This German museum was recently renovated and has various displays of tremendous artistic value from so many ancient cultures.

Lenbachhaus – Munich

Lenbachhaus – Munich

This hot German museum was completely reopened and renovated in the year 2013. It is a nineteenth century villa of Franz von Lenbach. The collection highlighted here is stunning, featuring so many paintings from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Works that are included here will feature various works that are signed by Franz Marc, Gabriele Munter, Paul Klee and Kandinsky.

Also known as the Green Vault, with 2 available options, the old vault and the new vault, both of the museums will offer great treasures on display, treasures collected by Saxony electors in the period between the sixteenth and the eighteenth centuries. You can easily see various interesting objects made out of porcelain, precious metals, stones, ivory and corals. Many carvings, statuettes, tableware and decorated chests will be viewed here.

Germany is well known for its luxury auto travel and precision engineering. The two museums are truly great and you can see so many interesting items on display, ranging from the Porsche 911 to the Mercedes 500 K.

Kunsthalle – Hamburg

Kunsthalle – Hamburg

The leading art museum in the Northern part of Germany. You can easily see Holbeins, Canalettos and Rembrands on display. Even modern canvases done my Munch, Picasso, Hockney, Klee and Kandinsky are commonly on display. You can also get a chance to view some of the works that were banned by Nazis and even contemporary works are on display.

The museum was left in ruins for tens of years after the World War II. Now we are faced with a growth in popularity because of the truly remarkable renovation and restoration that was done by David Chipperfield. The reopening was done in the year 2009. We are looking at a museum house that does highlight a huge collection of various Egyptian antiquities.
